WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHIES COME HOME TO THE COAST

Memphis in May World Championship Barbeque Competition was held May the 18th and 19th at Tom Lee Park in Memphis, Tennessee. A total of 258 teams from 49 states and three countries participated. The competition was divided into three categories: Shoulder, Ribs and Whole Hog. Each team could enter in one category. The Shed BBQ Joint, Ocean Springs, Mississippi placed 10th in Whole Hog in this ultimate, world competition.

On Friday of the event a separate non-barbeque related contest was held. The categories where: Seafood, Beef, Poultry and Themed Booth competition. The Shed BBQ Joint placed 2nd in Booth. Only three places were honored in this division and the difference between the 1st place and The Shed was five-hundredths of a point. The Shed also placed in the top twenty in beef and seafood.

The Shed was also filmed by the Food Network while there, and should be aired in August or September, and was chosen to be the “new seed” on the Cattlemen’s Barbeque Sauce documentary which will appear on Cattlemen’s web site. The four top legends in BBQ competitions and The Shed were honored to be on this documentary.

This was The Shed’s first time at the World Championship. The 10th place award guarantees them the opportunity to return next year.
